The 2027 ERAS season opens for applicants on June 4, 2026, with tokens available June 24, 2026. Applicants may begin submitting to programs on September 2, 2026, and programs begin reviewing applications and MSPEs on September 23, 2026.
The core components are the personal statement (28,000-character limit; aim for about one page), the Experiences section (up to 10 experiences with up to 3 Most Meaningful), letters of recommendation (up to 4 per program, submitted via the new AAMC Letter Writer Portal for 2027), the MSPE and transcripts, USMLE/COMLEX scores, and program signals plus geographic preferences. For the 2027 season the AAMC uses a simplified fee structure: $11 per program for the first 30 programs per specialty and $30 each beyond 30, plus a $185 ERAS token. Fees reset for each additional specialty, and the Fee Assistance Program offers a 60% discount on up to 50 applications for those who qualify.
USMLE Step 1 has been pass/fail since January 2022, so it no longer provides a numeric comparison. Step 2 CK is now the score programs most often weigh, alongside clinical performance, letters, research, away rotations, and program signals.
